Cinder Dumps - Concrete Abutments

The following are pictures of various concrete abutments that exist further out into the Cinder Dumps. It is unknown to me presently if these were part of the operation of the Earlston Furnace, or part of New Enterprise Stone & Lime's brief project in the area. What is known, is that most of these actually had small buildings on top of them, and small rail carts would pass underneath some of them. For what purpose, I have no idea, it's just from an old picture I once seen in the local newpaper's "Old Picture Album". (Which I wish I would have kept!)

This area is also referred to jokingly by many locals as "Stonehenge". Lots of graffiti to be found. The road in the background is again, the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
